Replacement of Serene S2068SS & S2068W heaters
A batch of Serene S2068SS & S2068W heaters manufactured in March 2021 have been identified as having a manufacturing defect. There have been several fires and overheating events associated with Serene S2068 appliances.
WorkSafe has recently issued a Gazette Notice prohibiting the sale of a batch of Serene S2068SS Stainless Steel & S2068W White Bathroom Heaters that were manufactured in March 2021. The manufacturer of the products – Serene Industries Limited – has closed its business in New Zealand and is no longer contactable.
If you purchased one of these units from us between 1st March and 31st December 2021 please contact your local branch and they will be able to assist you in recalling the affected products from your customers.Â
Actions for you
If you believe you have installed a S2068SS stainless steel or S2068W White heater from April 2021, we strongly encourage you to contact your customer and ask them to check if the serial number on their heater is within the defective serial numbers identified below.
The serial number is located on a label on the top of the heater.
The defective Serene S2068SS & S2068W heaters have a serial number in the following ranges:
Defective Range
If the serial number on your customer’s heater is not within the above ranges, then no further action is required.
If the serial number on your customer’s heater is within the above ranges, then please contact your local Ideal Electrical Branch Manager. On confirmation that your customer’s Serene S2068SS & S2068W heater is from the Defective Range, was purchased from us and will be replaced by you, our Branch Manager will be able to provide you with a free replacement from one of the below alternatives:
Weiss FH25WH Bathroom Fan Heater Wall Mounted Gloss White
Weiss FH24SS Bathroom Fan Heater Wall Mounted Stainless Steel
Alternatively, if your customer does not want a replacement heater (or you or your customer want to use a different replacement to what we have offered above), then on return of the defective heater our Branch Manager will be able to provide you with a credit for the original purchase price.
 Â
If you need any more information or have any questions, please contact your local Ideal Electrical Branch Manager to discuss.
What is happening with the rest of their range ie… S2088, Panel heaters etc and what is the warranty process is for these?
As far as we are aware, none of the other products are subject to a voluntary recall due to safety risk. The Consumer Guarantees Act doesn’t apply to Ideal as the goods have been purchased from us for resupply and 2) while unfortunate, Ideal is not liable for the warranties where the where the supplier (Serene) has ceased business.
Who pays for either uninstallation and/or reinstallation costs?
It would usually be the responsibility of the product manufacturer – Serene – who is no longer operational in NZ. Ideal is not responsible for uninstallation/reinstallation costs - the Consumer Guarantees Act does not apply to Ideal’s supply to our customers, being the electrical contractors.
You (the electrical contractor) should get your own legal advice on whether the Consumer Guarantees Act applies to your supply to your customer.
What are the options for Ideal’s customer (the electrical contractor)?
On returning the faulty product, they can get the following replacement heaters:
Weiss FH25WH Bathroom Fan Heater Wall Mounted Gloss White
Weiss FH25SS Bathroom Fan Heater Wall Mounted Stainless Steel
Alternatively, if their customer does not want a replacement heater (or then want to use a different replacement to what we have offered above), then a credit note for the original purchase price is available.
What should I (the electrical contractor do?)
