The below information has been sourced from SEANZ (Sustainable Energy Association of New Zealand), and we would like to formally acknowledge their contribution in providing this update regarding the application of the newer versions of solar PV and battery system standards.

November 13th 2025 was the first day from which you can start officially designing, installing, certifying and inspecting solar PV and battery systems to the newer versions of the standards as follows:

• AS/NZS 3000:2018 + Amendments
• AS/NZS 5033:2021
• AS/NZS 4777.1:2024
• AS/NZS 4777.2:2020
• AS/NZS 5139 (mandatory if applying the 2018 version of AS/NZS 3000)* Plus others

Please remember, application of these later standards is not mandatory for another 12 months (to 13th November 2026). Up until this date, either of the previous cited versions or these later ones may be applied. However, you must specify clearly which version you have elected to install on your CoC's.

We encourage members to migrate across to the newer version sooner rather than later, to avail of the changes that will ultimately lead to safer outcomes.

Please note: You can not apply parts of one version of an individual standard with another.
